Plus, new report says Halifax rental prices have gone down, Dal faculty prepared to strike and King Kayo's rise through authentic artistry.
Good morning Halifax,
If you were looking for a new reason to pack your bug out bag and head underground to wait on the end days—other than Texas now being underwater—the first case of measles has been detected in Nova Scotia.
Patient Zero is in Pictou County and now NS public health is looking at who else is ill with measles-like symptoms after it is believed the person travelled to other parts of the country and was infected 👀.
Luckily, the risk of contracting measles is low because non-dumb people are vaccinated, but I still don’t like that it has infiltrated our fair province.
The symptoms of measles include:
Fever
A red blotchy rash on the face, which spreads down the body
Cough, runny nose, red eyes
Small white spots may also show up inside the mouth and throat
And a friendly reminder that if you or your offspring haven’t been vaccinated, there’s still time to climb off your high horse and do the right thing because measles can be extremely dangerous to people that are immunocompromised and/or pregnant (like, for example, ME).
Anyone born after 1970 in the province is encouraged to receive two doses of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. Those born between 1970 and 1995 in Nova Scotia, it’s possible they only received one dose of this vaccine. You can find a clinic near you and make an appointment here.
If you haven’t been vaccinated and you don’t get vaccinated now that measles have hit Nova Scotia, I’ll go ahead and assume you hate my baby.
Have a great day 💉
– Julie

From Saint Lucia to Halifax stages: King Kayo's rise through authentic artistry

📸 Credit: Submitted
After a season of standout performances across the Maritimes, including headline sets and major opening slots, King Kayo is performing in Halifax this weekend to headline the Halifax Mural Festival, bringing his unmistakable Caribbean-rooted sound and community-focused spirit back to the city he proudly calls home.
King Kayo, born Filbert Salton in Ciceron, Saint Lucia, has spent the past year solidifying his place in the Canadian music landscape. His recent win for 2024 ECMA R&B/Soul Recording of the Year is just one of several milestones, following his recognition as 2023 ANSMA Artist of the Year and Music Nova Scotia’s DJ of the Year.
