Oh Halifax, you’re positively glowing!

You guys have jobs, right? I’m assuming most of you do. If you were working at your job—at a bank, or an accounting firm or I dunno, a vet clinic—what would happen if it surfaced that you published a song or even a social media post about doing massive amounts of blow with sluts in trucks?

Do you think you’d be fired? Of course you would!

That is, unless, your boss shared similar beliefs to you and didn’t think it was that big of a deal to call women hoes and sluts. If your boss thought it was cool and legit, you’d probably just high five each other on the way down the hallway.

And luckily for Energy Minister Marco MacLeod, he has just such a boss. One that has repeatedly shown to not care about gender-based violence—which btw, is what MacLeod’s song is. It’s violent language that disparages women. It’s misogynistic and gross and under any other circumstances, would get a person fired.

Which, I mean, same with most hip hop, but I don’t see T-Pain running for public office anytime soon.

I truly believe that MacLeod feels stupid and dumb, not for recording the truly most embarrassing piece of shit in the history of the rap game, but for posting it AGAIN in 2023. The only reason he would do that is because he was…dare I say, proud of it? Like he was like “this was way ahead of its time in 2013, but it’s going to absolutely slap in 2023.”

(For comparison’s sake, this would be like if nobody ever found out about that photo of Justin Trudeau in blackface from 2001 until he decided to RE-post it on his personal Instagram in like 2022. It’s that level bad.)

By allowing this guy to keep his cabinet position, Tim Houston is saying loud and clear “This is fine”. And if you’re shocked by that, you simply haven’t been paying attention.

Nova Scotia declared gender-based violence an epidemic in 2024, following through on a recommendation from the inquiry into the 2020 mass shooting that left 22 people plus the shooter dead in Nova Scotia, beginning with the assault gunman’s common-law spouse, who survived the attack.

Since then, gender-based violence has continued to rock the province—and the PC party continues to sweep the issue under the rug, which they have been doing for eons. Let’s examine the evidence.

Former PC Leader Jamie Baillie resigned after a third party confirmed he breached sexual harassment rules in 2017 and the PC party used NDAs to allegedly silence his victims. Brad Johns, who in his capacity as justice minister said that domestic violence “was not an epidemic”. The NDP introduced a bill to declare domestic violence an epidemic, but Houston flat out refused to even bring it to the floor until he was bullied into it. Houston has repeatedly refused to pass Bill-278 that would see the end of the harmful misuse of NDAs in instances of sexual assault or discrimination. Then there was the omnibus bill introduced and passed in 2025 that actually had some really great stuff in it for victims of domestic violence, but they hid it amongst a bunch of unrelated, shitty stuff like limiting our ability to protest.

Now we have Marco MacLeod to add to the PC party’s lowlight reel. Instead of handling it head on like respectable adults, the premier's office simply chose to deflect—as usual.

Tim Houston needs to just accept that he has no real role or say in the federal trade war—leave that to the grown-ups—and worry about his own house for a minute.
