🗞️ Shubenacadie plan

Plus, PC's making first delivery of promise made four years ago, Shark Week documentary focused on great whites off Nova Scotia coast and Halifax workshop is set to turn climate grief into art.

Hey Halifax,

Didn’t we almost have it all?

I think the majority of us were thrilled to hear that late Tuesday night, Parks Canada revoked the permit for Christian rocker and MAGA enthusiast Sean Feucht to perform at York Redoubt—a national historic site.

As part of their late-night statement, Parks Canada passed the hot potato by saying that the event was not a Parks Canada sanctioned event, but one that was being hosted by a permit holder. A permit that Parks Canada gave them…

They went on to say that they reassessed the permit after concerns about safety and security challenges and decided to revoke it. Hooray! Except this Christian diva is like, nbd, the show must go on.

In a video on his Facebook page late Wednesday morning, Feucht said that people have been gathering for Halifax Pride Festival events over the past week, "but now they're not so tolerant when peaceful Christians come together." 🙄

Feucht’s event page says the show would go ahead at a "new location that's even better than the old one," and asks people to send a direct message for the venue. CBC reported that the new “secret venue” was 338 Crombe Rd. in Shubenacadie—an address associated with a religious group called Lighthouse Ministries

I’m too pregnant to drag my ass out there, but interested to hear today how it went. If you went to either pray or protest, let me know in the comments.

Blessed be the fruit 🍎

– Julie

Skunk Motel proving their punk-rock versatility with new EP

Skunk Motel will be performing at Nova Scotia Music Week in Yarmouth in October. They are also planning an EP release show that has yet to be announced. 📸 Skunk Motel

All-girl punk band Skunk Motel is riding high after releasing their debut EP on June 20.

Having performed at several Music Nova Scotia showcases and being crowned The Coast’s gold winner for Best Punk Band in 2024, the four members of Skunk Motel have continued to up the ante with their five-track debut, wearing all of their influences on their sleeve as they push the limits of their sound.

The band consists of guitar player Kate Bo, bassist Sara Eve, vocalist Sarah Ellen Morrison and drummer Maya Taraschi. All four of them have been involved in the Halifax music scene for years, making Skunk Motel a scene-supergroup. Since their inception, they’ve managed to sell out some of the city’s most notable venues, including Seahorse Tavern and Gus’ Pub.
