Here’s a fun joke to start the week: What happens when Fyre Festival and Woodstock 99 have a leeeetle baby? The Magnetic World Music Festival!

Yes, this Rosemary’s Baby of a festival was apparently a huge shit show and as a responsible editor, I took the time to sift through the bowels of reddit to get you the real scoop from people that had muddy boots on the Garrison Grounds.

First of all, we have to address the line-up, especially head-liner Akon. This guy sucked when he was cool and given the changing landscape, listening to a washed-up rapper singing about “smacking that” simply ain’t it. Read the room, Halifax planners.

Friday night was an apparent nightmare. One attendee said they have been to many festivals and this was by far the worst experience they’ve ever had. Lines to get in the venue were thousands deep with people openly drinking, getting progressively drunk and violent, jumping the barricades, fighting and even just passing out in line.

After being almost crowd crushed by the shoving and pushing, the writer says that people were looking for a fight and it was “terrifying”. When they found a guard and told them of their concerns, the guards seemed non-plussed and said they would “keep an eye out”.

Many people reported that the line was so long and disorganized that they missed the acts they had paid an exorbitant amount of money for a ticket to see.

Reports say that Saturday night was marginally better, although the lines were still very out of control and violent. Organizers allegedly had to even ask Saturday’s headliner—Ne-Yo—to stop his show and as people to take steps back because people were pushing too hard and getting crushed.

This feels like the perfect storm of a completely inept event-planning company over-selling tickets to thousands of drunk savages. Being there would be a fate worse than death for this old widowed millennial.

At the Magnetic World Music Festival, HRP arrested 11 people under the Liquor Control Act; six were arrested on Friday and five on Saturday—Const. Cromwell says he is not aware of all the altercations that may have taken place this weekend. He also encouraged people to bring forward concerns from the weekend and report incidents they experienced to police.

I was going to tell you the story about how I broke two ribs getting crowd crushed at the Backstreet Boys concert after I slept out on the sidewalk all night to get front row access. But some angry readers have been saying this column is all about me and are sick of me talking about myself so much. So you don’t get the full play-by-play. Blame the haters.
