🗞️ One-man-sleuth coming to the city

Hello Halifax,

It’s your favourite lifestyle journalist Warren here.

It feels like just yesterday I was starting this summer internship, the sun was finally warming up the city, and I was sitting with my friends making an ambitious, borderline delusional, summer to-do list. It was May. We had plans—big ones. Beach days, festival nights, road trips, food crawls, and everything in between. And now, here we are: the last week of August. My final year of school is staring me down, half that summer list is crossed off (okay, maybe a third), and what’s ahead of me is… my thesis!

End of summer, to me, signifies one thing: moving season. And yep—you guessed it—I’m moving. Again. The packing, the labelling, the cleaning out of a fridge that frankly should’ve been dealt with weeks ago. It’s all happening.

My bunny is not impressed. The house is now more boxes than floor space, and since I’m actually on top of my game (for once) and taping the boxes shut, she can’t even hop in and play. Her disappointment is palpable.

Every time I move I say, “I’m going to downsize before the next one.” And yet here I am, booking a U-Haul bigger than last year’s. Growth? Maybe not.

As I prep to haul my life (again), the school year looms, and with it comes the Back to School Haul content tsunami across every feed I scroll. Let’s be honest—it’s pure consumerism disguised as content: all neatly folded sweatshirts, tote bags, and $8 pens being unboxed like treasure. And still, despite knowing it’s scripted, edited, shot 10 times for the perfect angle—I watch every second. Because I’m nosy. And because even if I know better, I still want to know what a stranger on the internet is up to.

Until I write to you next—you know you love me.

XOXO,
Warren

Award-winning comedy Not Quite Sherlock returns to Halifax for 2025 Fringe Festival

📸Submitted

Fringe favourite Chris Gibbs returns to Halifax this weekend with his long-running solo comedy Not Quite Sherlock, performing as part of the 2025 Halifax Fringe Festival.

The one-man show opens Thursday, Aug. 28 and runs through Sept. 6. “I’m coming to Halifax for the Fringe with a show called Not Quite Sherlock,” said Gibbs. “I’m British, but I live in Toronto.”

Set in London during the final years of the 19th century, Not Quite Sherlock is a comedic play about Barnaby Gibbs — “a man made almost entirely of shortcomings” — who becomes the unlikely partner of the brilliant detective Antoine Feval.
