Plus, more funding coming for student housing and this week's harbour report.
Good morning!
Earlier this week we ran a poll asking how many of you had gotten the seasonal influenza jab already, and lots of people who responded also asked that we share the results when they came in. So here they are:
Have you gotten the flu shot this season?
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Yes, I'm vaccinated. (79%)
🟨⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️ Not yet. (12%)
⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️ No, and I don't intend to. (9%)
On another note, some of you said you hadn’t received the shot because you were unsure of where to actually get one. Here’s some more info on where flu shots are being offered in Nova Scotia this year and how to book an appointment.

Province to fund much-needed NSCC student housing, but questions remain
📸 Lauren Philips/The Coast
Yes, technically 100 more students at NSCC’s IT campus in the north end should have housing available to them soon. However, what form that housing will come in, where it will be and what it will cost both to build and to pay for each semester remains unclear. Meanwhile, students are still waiting for a province-wide housing strategy that was due last spring as the rent cap deadline approaches at the end of 2023.

HARBOUR REPORT
Israel-Hamas war, global port blockades cloud container ship’s Halifax arrival
📸 Wolfgang Fricke (CC BY 3.0)
The ZIM Atlantic container ship was expected to arrive in Halifax earlier this week, but appeared to still be in transit as of Tuesday. The Israeli-owned shipping company has been facing protests in recent weeks for its alleged ties to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Ports, rail lines and ZIM offices have witnessed blockades and demonstrations in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Sydney, Australia as Palestinian supporters have called for a ceasefire in Gaza, where UN estimates the civilian death toll has surpassed 13,000.
No such blockades have occurred in Halifax—though local calls for a ceasefire have grown in recent weeks. Coast reporter Martin Bauman has more on ZIM’s situation, along with what else is coming in and out of port this week.
