Plus, Tim Houston condemns Nova Scotia Power’s rate hike,
Happy Friday Halifax,
It’s finally time for me to love you and leave you before I give birth on my keyboard—which sounds messy and expensive.
I want to take a moment though before I head off on this crazy new adventure to thank you sincerely for all of your kind words, support, messages, cards and even baby clothes!
This has been without a doubt the hardest summer of my life; I never pictured having to get ready for a baby while simultaneously grieving the loss of my partner—my docking station in life. But the way that you all wrapped your arms around me was incredibly humbling and helped me more than you can know.
I’m not leaving you high and dry though. The Coast Daily will be in very capable hands while I’m gone with Brendyn Creamer—an iconic journalist and all-around incredible human. Be nice to him!
In the meantime, definitely follow me on Instagram if you don’t already because you know the baby content will be funny as I awkwardly try to navigate this wild new phase in life. Plus, I’m sure I’ll still have lot’s of commentary to share on what’s going on in this great city of ours.
Sending enough love and light to get you through my leave! 💕
– Julie

Between mystical visits from an ancient ancestor, every-day life at her job at her Uncle's convenience store on the Rez, and her community rallying to tear down a statue of her city's founder, Brooke feels torn. She is struggling to reconcile her Mi'kmaw heritage and living in a place founded by a British military officer hell bent on destroying her ancestors.
This gentle comedy asks the question - how can a woman whose family lives in a society placed under a microscope of stereotype, carry the resilience of her ancestors to embrace their existence?
