šŸ—žļø Honk if you hate Elon

Plus, Mi'Kmaw chiefs consider legal action against fracking legislation, Halifax launches first regulated micromobility pilot project and every big show coming to Halifax in April.

Polaron Solar

Happy Monday,

At a time when we seem to be able to agree on almost nothing, I do believe the one thing we can come together on is that Elon Musk plainly sucks.

Nazi salute, anti-Canadian rhetoric and delusions of grandeur aside, what heā€™s trying to do to the U.S. government is justā€¦wrong. Heā€™s applying the exact strategy he implemented when he took over Twitterā€”go in, fire 75% of the workforce, then fill a few of the gapsā€”to a government state.

The problem is that if that approach doesnā€™t work with a social media company, youā€™ll have millions of annoyed users, but life will go on with no real suffering. If it doesnā€™t work in a federal government, people get hurt. And not just the employees that get laid off, but the people that depended onā€”and benefited fromā€”the work those people did.

His mismanagement of government is but one of the myriad reasons why hundreds of protests took place around the world on Saturday. The eventā€”dubbed the Tesla Takedownā€™s Global Day of Actionā€”is the latest demonstration by those who object to the role Tesla CEO Elon Musk has played in Trumpā€™s administration.

About a dozen people gathered outside the Tesla showroom in Dartmouth Saturday as part of an international protest. They held signs reading ā€œBoycott Musk!ā€ and ā€œStop Musk!ā€ as cars drove by honking horns.

This all made me feel great! You know I love nothing more than sticking it to the man. But then I stumbled across this and now I think Iā€™m just going to crawl back into bed for the next four years.

Take care of yourself and each other out there!

Hot sh*t! Nelly is coming to Halifax. But what would be Nelly without Ja Rule?

As the days get longer and the calendar (finally) flips from March to April, thereā€™s a brand-new lineup of shows coming to Halifax. From throw back hip-hip, to controversial comedians, to ground-breaking Canadian theatre, thereā€™s something for everyone this month on the cityā€™s stages.

šŸ¤” Need To Know

šŸ‘€ Police are asking for information and video footage from the public after a stranger approached a 10-year-old child in Clayton Park on Thursdayā€”the child was waiting at a school bus stop on Langbrae Drive when the driver pulled up and said he was an Uber driver ordered by the childā€™s parents.

āš’ļø Miā€™kmaq chiefs in Nova Scotia say they are considering legal action against newly passed provincial legislation that opens the door to hydraulic fracturing for natural gasā€”adding the government is making decisions on unceded and traditional Miā€™kmaq territory without properly consulting them.

šŸ›“ Anyone in Halifax will be able to grab an electric bicycle or scooter this spring as part of the city's first regulated micromobility pilot projectā€”featuring new technology to prevent users from riding on the sidewalk.

If youā€™re an emerging Black writer in Nova Scotia working on a project but arenā€™t sure how to publish it, or want to talk to writers who have been there and get advice on what comes next, then the Ink Collective is likely for you. The Coastā€™s Lauren Phillips sat down with award-winning author and Ink Collective creator, Andre Fenton, to talk through the programā€™s details and why mentorship is so important in writing.

šŸ’œ We are in the midst of an emergency. The second annual Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Summit, hosted by the Leeside Society and Be the Peace Institute, sold out in record timeā€”because people know we are at a breaking point. But selling out a summit is not a victory. The real measure of progress is lives saved, harm prevented, and systems changed. And right now, we are failing. This is not a future problemā€”it is a crisis happening now. We can no longer wait. Gender-based violence advocate and activist Liz LeClair has more on the crisis, the summit and what you can do to help.
