🗞️ Hot Hospital Gossip
Plus, police warn to be cautious on the streets as kids head back to school, construction work on the QEII Halifax Infirmary has reached a new milestone and Dal board and faculty heading back to conciliation talks on Monday.
Happy Friday Halifax,
Aaaaaand we’re off to a great start.
A Halifax-area teen was arrested this week after police allege they posted a picture of themself on school property with what appeared to be a firearm while making threats against staff and students. Police say they made the arrest after seeing the post on Tuesday afternoon—two days before the official start of school.
The 16-year-old from Middle Sackville was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, but police later learned that the firearm was an airsoft gun—a replica of a real firearm that shoots small, plastic projectiles called "BBs" using compressed air or gas, not gunpowder.
To which I say: Who cares that it was fake? It’s still deeply disturbing.
But what shook me to my real core was the official response was not “clearly school violence is an even bigger problem than we thought and we better take action” and instead was basically “don’t post silly things on social media.”
An RCMP spokesperson said this is a great reminder for kids to “think before they post” and that “posting something they think is ‘cool’ can have lasting consequences.” It’s like the point is here, and the response is waaaaaay over here.
We’re not talking about a kid posting a video of himself lighting a fart on fire in his parent’s basement; this is a serious threat made with what seemed to be a firearm. Was this kid trying to look ‘cool’ or crying out for desperate help? I’d wager the latter.
Please have a safe and restful weekend and hold your kids nice and close.
Love and light!
– Julie

Hospital Gossip’s new single “In Rain” will leave a legacy

What does it mean to leave a legacy?
It’s a difficult question to answer. Thoughts may drift towards what we’ve accomplished—the biggest impacts we’ve made, contributions to our crafts, and what we chose to put out into the world.
Hospital Gossip’s newest single, “In Rain”, is a reflection on legacy. Rather than focus on the loftier aspects of who we are, it hones in on the connections essential to our being—the relationships we develop with those who will carry our memory forward.
In committing to this topic with such introspective honesty, with a music video that expertly builds a narrative around this theme, Hospital Gossip is establishing its own legacy.
