🗞️ Missed the memo
Plus, province-wide burn ban now in place until mid-October, police are advising residents that a high-risk offender is now living in HRM and everything going on this weekend in Halifax.
Happy Friday Halifax,
If it’s not one thing it’s another with the RCMP. If any other organization screwed up this much on the job—like a company that works for profit, for example—stocks would plummet and they would go belly up.
And as I already begin to predict all of the wonderful stories you have defending RCMP and how worthy of respect they are, I’m reminded of this Chris Rock bit when he talks about how some men walk around bragging about stuff that they’re supposed to do. “I take care of MY kids! You’re supposed to take care of your kids!”
The RCMP is supposed to do a good job! They’re supposed to investigate crimes properly. They’re supposed to protect us equally and equitably. When they actually do those things, those are not to be celebrated! That’s what they’re supposed to be doing. But this latest fiasco is truly one for the ages as the RCMP continues to find new and innovative ways of screwing up.
Two RCMP constables showed up at a Dartmouth residence on Friday searching for a drunk driving suspect seemingly completely unaware the man they wanted to speak to had been found dead more than a year ago—in a homicide case that they themselves have not yet solved.
In fact, only two months ago, the RCMP went so far as issuing a news release asking for help to solve the homicide of the 36-year-old North Preston man who sustained gunshot wounds last May.
The RCMP released an “oopsie doospie” statement, but the damage had already been done as the man’s mother was quoted as saying "Haven't we been through enough?" You [RCMP] just keep traumatizing me and my family over and over.”
The incident at her front door has deepened her suspicion that police are putting no effort into solving the case. Which, I mean, is hard to argue with.
I also find it deplorable that the constables went ahead and told the children who answered the door—the man’s 15-year-old sister and his young twin daughters—about the situation and why they were there to which the 15-year-old is captured on the ring camera asking: "How do you have a complaint for someone who's not even alive?"
And girl, that is an excellent question.
I hope you have a safe and restful long weekend,
– Julie
🎇 A Friendly Reminder
100% of the province is under a fire ban with no significant rainfall in the forecast. With the Natal Day weekend approaching we feel it is important to remind citizens that consumer fireworks are banned by the Office of the Fire Marshal when the burn map is red.
