LIQUOR CHARGES
Province issues Liquor Control Act charges against Halifax Alehouse after December homicide outside pub
📸 Submitted
The Halifax Alehouse is facing two Liquor Control Act charges amid ongoing allegations of bouncer violence. The charges stem from an investigation launched in the days after 31-year-old Ryan Michael Sawyer was found “unresponsive” on the sidewalk outside the pub early on Dec. 24, 2022. Sawyer’s death was later ruled a homicide.
Speaking with The Coast, the province’s Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco division says it has issued the Alehouse infractions for allegedly permitting activity deemed “detrimental to the order of the control of the premises,” as well as for not reporting police charges relating to incidents on or near its property.
Meanwhile, as The Coast’s Martin Bauman reports, the Brunswick Street pub faces a string of incidents involving allegations of security staff crossing the line.
