🗞️Local talent on your TV screen

Plus, 18-year-old arrested and charged following reports of gunshots, work underway to redesign Dutch Village Road in Fairview, NSP confirms wider data breach.

Hello Halifax,

It’s finally feeling like summer in Halifax. The sun is out, the patios are buzzing, and the city seems to exhale a little easier with the warmth. After weeks of overcast skies and rain-soaked days, we’re being gifted with a proper stretch of sunshine heading into the weekend, and honestly, it’s about time.

On a brighter personal note, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been selected to walk in two runway shows during the upcoming Halifax Fashion Week, cannot wait to get emails about the rest. It’s an incredible honour to represent local creativity and be part of something that celebrates this city's growing fashion scene. Whether you're front row or cheering from Instagram, I hope you’ll catch some of the magic.

But amid all this light, I came across something this week that left me gutted. While scrolling through some articles, I read a report by the BBC that revealed how race and show horses are often shot after injuries, because treating them is too costly, and their recovery often means a life in pain or immobility (read more here).

It broke my heart to think of these majestic animals, who give their all to performance and sport—being discarded the moment they become inconvenient. I understand the complexity, the economics, and the pain factor. But I can’t shake the feeling that they deserve more.

Sometimes, I daydream about winning the lottery, not for a mansion or a jet, but to build a sanctuary for retired show horses. A place where they can rest, roam. Maybe one day.

Until then, take in the sun, support local art, and keep questioning the systems that break our hearts.

XOXO
Warren
