Good morning!

Today is Trans Day of Visibility, a time to recognize our beloved trans, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender-diverse community members and the impact they have on our art, culture, businesses, social spaces, and on everyday life.

As much progress there’s been within the past decade, certain happenings down south have had their impact here in Canada. Far-right talking heads have infiltrated common spaces with their hate, and it is unfortunately an issue that continues to pop up even here in Halifax. We need to contest these problems when, and before, they arise, hand in hand with our trans and non-binary friends who make our lives so much brighter.

Let’s make sure these people can remain seen, heard, and appreciated.

Best,

– B

Banning the people from the people’s house

📸 Nova Scotia Legislature/Youtube

On Wednesday, March 24, a group of spectators sat in the public gallery of Province House at 11:30pm and watched the government pass a budget that is doing real harm to real people across Nova Scotia.

They didn't go there to protest. They didn't go there to sing. They went to look the government in the eye while they voted in the budget that was set to decimate their communities.

Then someone started singing. No one knows who. It wasn't planned. But within moments, the entire gallery joined in — twenty minutes of singing, spontaneous and full-throated, echoing through a building that belongs to all of us.
