The Coast

Good morning Halifax,

For the last few months, I haven’t felt it was safe to even leave my house because I knew that no matter where I went, I would somehow end up spending $70. During these tariff-ying times, $70 is the minimum price you simply must pay for leaving the house.

But finally, there is some good news. A new chapter in the trade dispute with the United States opened this week when Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that retaliatory tariffs on some U.S. exports included in the existing Canada-U.S. trade deal would be rescinded.

The U.S. ambassador apparently told Carney this was a good call because the retaliatory tariffs were a “major impediment to making good progress” and that Canada had retaliatory tariffs on some goods that were actually covered under the existing trade agreement

So, what does this all mean for you?

It means that some things will actually get cheaper! You can expect to see a price decrease on the following incredibly random list of items: orange juice, peanut butter, craft beer, ketchup, coffee pods, refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, lawn mowers, denim jeans, running shoes, bicycles, lipstick, toothpaste, paper towels, and bed sheets.

So I guess the take-home message is: Stock up on lawnmowers before Trump changes his dumb mind again. Actual footage of me in my basement tomorrow:

Spend while you can out there 💸

🔍 Special Announcement

ATTENTION! We need our best and brightest citizen sleuths on the case to identify these two true asshats who broke into the Oxford Tap Room early yesterday morning. In exchange for two iPads and a few 12 packs, they threw down some streaming brown on the patio.

Sources tell me this is not the first theft with poop incident on Quinpool recently. This is biological warfare and must be stopped!

If you recognize either of these clowns, please contact HRP:

👀 In Case You Missed It

🍽️ The last time I stepped into The Pint was back in 2021. A group of us had made a last-minute booking for a pre-Neptune bite. The meal was unremarkable, the room felt tired, and the restaurant bore the wear and tear of neglect. I didn’t think much of it after that. Fast forward a few years. Last week, at the behest of a colleague, I walked back in for a lunch meeting and was met with something unexpected: noticeably better food and a clear commitment to the space that went beyond beer taps and flat screens.
