Happy Friday, Halifax.

I’m happy to announce that our lineup for Burger Bash 2026 with Garrison Brewing is now live!

From April 16 to 25, restaurants all across Halifax will be offering special burgers supporting Feed Nova Scotia. With over 150 burgers to try, there will be plenty of chances to satiate your hunger while supporting a great cause.

In its 13th year, Burger Bash has raised $993,821 for Feed Nova Scotia—the largest fundraiser for the organization outside of their own initiatives. Last year, we raised $110,042, provided 165,063 meals for Nova Scotians in need, and sold 78,473 burgers in total. I probably don’t have to tell you this, but that’s a lot of burgers.

So, if you’re feeling hungry any time within that 10 day time span, be sure to check out one of the participating restaurants and try out their burger. You’ll be doing a good deed for someone in need—as well as your stomach.

Best,

– B

Public: Walking the café and bistro line

📸 C Brock

In the light-filled space that once housed Fawn at 1589 South Park Street, Public Café, Bakery and Bar has emerged. According to Shannon Bruhm of RCR Hospitality, the team behind Public, the goal was straightforward: “We wanted to create a comfortable community watering hole where people can drop in for coffee, pastries, lunch, dinner, or a late-night drink.”

It sounds simple enough, but in practice bridging two familiar but often difficult worlds: café by day and comfortable bistro for lunch and dinner.

👀 In Case You Missed It

🍳 For many people who love food and hospitality, the dream of one day opening a space dedicated to cooking, sharing knowledge, and celebrating great ingredients quietly lingers in the background. For Nicola Gillis, that dream eventually took shape in Halifax with the opening of Saffron & Salt, a thoughtfully curated cook shop and cooking class venue located at The Richmond Yards on the corner of Clifton and Almon Streets. The ‘Yards’ is quietly creating a culinary oasis in Halifax’s North End, as Saffron & Salt neighbours include a fine food emporium, a cake shop and will soon welcome a new Italian café and eatery. The Coast’s food critic Mark DeWolf talks with Gillis about her new kitchenware business.

🗳️ Premier Tim Houston’s approval rating has hit a new low as the provincial government receives criticism for its controversial budget—his rating has decreased by 11 points, sitting at 39 percent.

That’s it!
