🗞️ Cheap eats that are actually cheap

Plus, parking, traffic, construction and prices are keeping people away from downtown

Oh hi Halifax,

Just when you thought it was safe to go outside this weekend, a virus that can turn a racoon into a “zombie” has reportedly been raging with outbreaks in many parts of Canada (none as of yet in Halifax). Trust me, I wish more than anything that I was joking.

It’s officially called Canine Distemper Virus and according to experts, they will look possessed, get up on their hind legs, bare their teeth and growl. If you’re out at the bars, be alert because they may also apparently topple over like they are “drunk racoons.” Do not be fooled. They are NOT drunk, they are zombies.

I feel like this goes without saying, but if you see a racoon acting weirder than usual, do not approach it. Call the NS Department of Natural Resources and they’ll…I don’t know what they’ll do.

Be careful out there and have a great weekend 🦝

– Julie

This economy… it damn sure ain’t easy. With Canada’s inflation rate up 2.9% in March from the same time last year, a good number of Haligonians are finding it harder to scrounge up extra cash of any kind these days—let alone for a meal out.

So what’s a hungry person to do? Thankfully, there are still deals to be found across Halifax—and damn good food, too. Setting a price limit of $15 (a shade under Nova Scotia’s minimum hourly wage), we’ve combed through Halifax’s favourite haunts and meal deals to bring you the city’s best cheap eats that will satisfy both your stomach and your bank account.

🤔 Need To Know

🚙 🐠 According to a new study, lack of parking, traffic, affordability and construction are the main reasons HRM residents are staying away from the downtown core. Survey respondents also said that an aquarium, performing arts centre or “more family friendly” attractions would entice them to come downtown more often.
