Good morning!
Firstly, a friendly reminder that The Coast’s Burger Bash 2026 with Garrison Brewing is happening right up until Sunday, April 26. Make sure to check out our website to see what burgers look the most appetizing to you!
Secondly, I want to give a shout out to another great event raising money to fight food insecurity: the Food for the Ears Festival.
This amazing event started in Truro in 2023 by then-16 year-old Ethan Chitty. I remember interviewing Ethan about the event back then, and it was wild to hear a teenager put so much time and effort into raising money for the local food bank.
Years later, I’m glad to see the event has evolved into a two-day festival with acts such as Rankin MacInnis, Elyse Aeryn, Colrain and Public Service, all in support of Feed Nova Scotia. The main festival runs from June 12-13 at Alderney Landing, though the non-profit has also begun a new series titled Appetizer Shows, bringing Food for the Ears across the province.
So, in between burgers, be sure to grab a ticket for Food for the Ears. The more money that can be raised for Feed Nova Scotia, the better. Ticket sales end on April 21.
Best,
– B

Tilted Tap Bar & Grill is turning up the dial with the Maplenator — a juicy seasoned 6oz beef patty layered with thinly sliced ribeye, caramelized onions, a melted blend of pepper jack and smoked gouda, and crispy applewood bacon with a hint of maple drizzle, all finished with chipotle mayo and fresh arugula on a toasted garlic brioche bun. Sweet, smoky, and a little bit of heat — this one's seriously satisfying. At $19.99, with $2 going to Feed NS, it comes with fries and a good reason to visit this locally owned Dartmouth favourite. 👀 In Case You Missed It
🍟 I attended two pre-launch events this week for Burger Bash 2026, including an influencer-focused gathering at Harbourstone in Halifax on Monday and an industry event at Battery Park in Dartmouth the following day. Both events ran from 2 to 4 p.m. and offered an early look at this year’s lineup. Organized by The Coast in partnership with Garrison Brewing, Burger Bash 2026 is a citywide fundraiser in support of Feed Nova Scotia. Over the past 13 years, the event has raised $993,821, making it the organization’s largest fundraiser outside of its own initiatives. Having attended two pre-launch events, The Coast’s Warren D’Silva gives readers an early glimpse of The Coast’s Burger Bash 2026 presented by Garrison Brewing.
🎨 For Hangama Amiri, fabric isn’t just a medium, it’s a memory. “Working with fabric kind of made me much closer to who I was as an artist, as a refugee woman as well, as an immigrant,” she says. “My art is related to a lot of feelings and kind of memories of back home.” Now an internationally exhibiting artist and a 2025 Sobey Art Award shortlist nominee, Amiri is returning to Halifax, her “second home”, for a public artist talk on April 16 at the Halifax Central Library. The event, running from 7 to 8:30 pm, it is part of a broader conversation around art, community and storytelling, co-presented by the National Gallery of Canada, the Sobey Art Foundation and Halifax Public Library. The Coast’s Warren D’Silva speaks with Amiri about her art and how it tells her story.
⚖️ Two members of the Royal Canadian Navy have been charged in the death of Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory Applin—he died when his inflatable boat was overturned after striking an unlit buoy in the Halifax harbour on Jan. 24, 2025.
That’s it!
