Vibe check: How are you feeling about climate change?

And here's all the local movies nominated for a 2023 Screen Nova Scotia award

PRESENTED BY

Hello sports fans and people who think they might want to try out sports fandom!

Coast reporter Martin and I are huge fans of the Halifax Wanderers FC, or rather, we want to be. We both come to our love of soccer honestly—both of us play, Martin’s been covering the Canadian Premier League (the Wanderers’ league) since it started five years ago, and I’ve been following Bristol City to an unhealthy degree since about 2013.

So, we’ve decided to pair our love of the game with our love of this city and start a Wanderer’s podcast. Although knowing a bit about soccer would help, this is meant to be approachable.

If you want a better understanding of the pros and cons of having an inverted fullback, this is not the podcast for you. If you want to know which letter of the YMCA is most likely to result in a straight red card, this is the podcast for you. It’s the letter Y, and if you want to know why, you’ll have to listen to the latest episode of The Wanderer Grounds, in which we recap the weekend’s 1-1 draw against Atletico Ottawa.

TOGETHER WITH URBAN CAPITAL

From something old comes something new, introducing Navy Lane

To one of Halifax’s oldest streets comes a residential development that tips its hat to everything past and future about its storied neighbourhood. A building that responds to the need for high-design with flair, quality homes in the city, while shaping the further evolution of this important part of our community.

Introducing Navy Lane, on the historic and eclectic Gottingen Street. Being the fourth of Urban Capital’s residential condominiums in Halifax, it joins Southport, Gorsebrook Park, and NRTH. All of which, in their own way, fit into their neighbourhoods through design and intent to become part of the broader community. In this regard, Navy Lane—so named because of the lane that runs beside it down towards Halifax’s naval base—is no different.

AWARDS SZN

Here's all the local movies nominated for a 2023 Screen Nova Scotia award

📸 Screen Nova Scotia

After a record-setting year in Nova Scotia films–with more productions than ever calling "action" across the province—the latest Screen Nova Scotia nominees have been announced. The potential winners for the May 13 awards shows off just how many great stories are being made here, from Floyd Kane's hit legal drama Diggstown (which netted four nominations) to Kevin Hartford's indie-cool dramedy Lemon Squeezy (which is in the running in two categories).

The leader of the nominees, though? The debut feature from actor-writer-director Koumbie, called Bystanders. The Best Feature contender asks "What do you do when someone you like does something you hate?”, as the filmmaker explained to The Coast at the movie's premiere last fall at FIN Atlantic International Film Festival. The flick is also nominated for Best Director and four of its cast members are up for awards for their performances, giving it a total of six nominations.
